Sunday Bottle Jet Single

After a week and a half of being sick with a bad cold, and 2 weeks of no rides, finally got out for a spin.

Had a beverage pick up to make in Burwood so took the dog and the BFe SS out to Bottle Lake.  Headed in the middle and hung the leftish route to keep it short for the tired old dog.  Through the grown up trees, into the tall forest past the pond then on through, Jet keeping a good steady speed the whole way.  Out, around and along the middle front, all familiar trails, albeit with taller trees than even last year's Fat bike outings.

Along muddy road and into a brand new trail to the left, opposite the trail from Spencerville.  Rolled through this, through two sections of forest, then onto a road for a long haul west, down to what used to be known as Andrew's Favourite, all the good bits in between now decimated.  Through this dark forest, Jet slowing down a little, but still steady as he went.  Then, intersection, options rightish, through what was a new section a few years ago, or leftish into newer forest, kinda following old ways but all newer trail, which i took as it's shorter.  Wound around this for a while and eventually out.

A reasonable, easy 10 kms, spectacularly 89 m climbed, for a happy dog and a recovering sicko.

Thursday Lunch "Hour" Bottle Ache with Go-go

Higgs and me skedoodled out to Blotto-ed Lake with the bikes on the back.  A couple laps around the pumpy jump tracks firstly and then headed into the lake.  The right hand turn is closed right now, but we wanted to go the left route anyway, so headed on in.  Great being on the fatty, it really is like a giant bmx (with gears).  And I can't believe how much the trees have grown.  That first section, Go-go had referred to as "the Open Section" which is certainly not open anymore.  Bomb bomb bomb, I started catching up to a guy so stopped and H and me got our asthmas under control and took off again.  I caught the guy up in the next section, a bit before the pond in there.  Stopped here and waited for H.  Good stop here then back into it.

Good flowing and fun riding from here onwards.  I stopped and gave the tip to Hugie wherein you power on the downs and ease up the ups.  Good fun.  Got caught up by some dudes at the Spenser Park turn off.  They'd left the cars a little before us, but must have gone out the beach way, somehow.  Anyhoo, they headed towards Spencer, and we took 'Muddy Rd' along the way, and on into the forest.

Everything has grown so much.  It's crazy.  It is basically 2 years since I last did a proper Bottle Lake loop... 'course, I've skimmed the beach edge a couple times more recently but the seedlings of not that long ago are now towering over the trail with lush foliage.  Those guys passed us again in the dark of what was one time called 'Andrew's Favourite Bit.'  After this, they've resurrected a section that had been blown out for a few years from logging, the replacement trees are all quite tall already, and you don't have to go into the 'temporary' dark tall forest with a terrible surface anymore (you still can tho - we just chose the 'new'/old way).  It flowed into a section I remembered from days long passed, and then back into the recent sections to finish.

A whopping 9.3 kms, and 70 m climbed!

Now, the question is, are we going back into Lockdown?

Sunday Bottly Jettly Fattly

Took the dog and the fat bike to Bottle Lake and we did a lap. Like me, he's not as fit as he used to be (tho, more because since his accident and since our move of house he's hardly ever getting a walk or run), and so the second half wasn't as fast as the first, cos I had to keep stopping and encouraging him along.  He was pretty knackered by the end, but soldiered on to the last. Gotta get him more exercise, so he can start accompanying me again.  We rode in, hung a right, and headed out towards the gazebo and through to the beach front.  Along the front there, and I ventured up onto my fun singletrack along the dune top (once in the pines again), then headed back into the park, and cut the loop shorter along 'muddy road' (which was muddy), and then back through.  Towards the end, we detoured along a couple of the roads to cut back to the car.  Fun on the fat.

a 13km loop, with the usual negligible altituded (apparently 80 m)...

Sunday Father's Day micro-Tour.

On the Troll, headed for Bottle Lake, through Banks Ave, backstreets, Horseshoe Lake Rd, Lake Terrace, Burwood, sneaking along the edge of the forest and in the side onto the singletrack, up past the gazebo and down (nearly losing my bag - fastening it better) then through ponds, out to the beach trail, and headed north as far as I could go overtaking a couple of girls and their dog.

Then it was on the road from Spencer Park thru what was once Brooklands, left and along to Stuart's Gully hillbilly camp, feels like deliverance riding through their street, and finally found my way onto the 360 trail.  This became a nice little singletrack along the Waimak edge, twisting and turning, then eventually under the two bridges.  Headed along Coutts Island but realised I'd gone a little far, so backtracked (through a Fulton Hogan gravel yard) to Dickies Rd, riding down this and checking out the new motorway.  Past the Peg Pub, and found my way through to the Otakaikino Track, back under the new motorway, and following this thru to and through The Groynes, in behind Clearwater, then further upstream past previous year's and last week's plantings, Stopped for a snack at Omaka and some texts on the 40km mark.

Got going again, and headed through past the lakes and over the hillock onto Sawyer's Arms Rd, (with a brief detour down Veitches Rd and Cavendish) to one block of the Railtrail, then onto the new cycleway down Sawyers Arms, past Northlands, down Grassmere, Rutland, and Trafalgar St to Edgeware Rd.  Along this and finally home via the Supermarket for a well earned Berkenhead Ninkasi.  Rather tired I was.

55 km loop, 170 m 'climbed'...

And another one, Bottled Family.

Family, fat bike and dog for a spin at the pond after dropping off a musical instrument in North Beach.  We followed a weird and convoluted route due to a certain grumpy child, but we got there in the end.

Sunday Bottled Up Family

T's Aunt and Uncle (in their sixties) are doing the Central Otago rail trail later in the month, and were keen to do some sort of ride, so we showed them around Bottle Lake.  T, H, myself and Jet, and them, all met out at the carpark and headed in.  They're not so fast, so we took the internal route, stopping and gorging on blackberries on the first section, then continuing on.  They enjoyed it, H enjoyed it, T was on my fatty, I was on the Spot.  I trailed along behind a couple times, others was out ahead with H.  By the end, everybody was getting along the trails quite nicely and there was seldom too big a gap when we stopped at the front for the catch up.  After, we went to Under The Red Veranda for lunch.

Usual stuff all altitude, speed, and distance.  Strangely, we somehow managed to get to over 100m, and also nearly 200m in altitude...  These bits coincide with the deepest forest, so obviously some GPS confusion is occuring.

Sunday Bottle Ache with the kids

Another round of Bottle Lake.  T away for weekend, so sole charge parenting in action.  Picked up H's new (tardme purchase) Xmas present bike from Rangoon, then home and load the other bikes, O, H, O's friend Ollie, and Jet, out to the pond.  Did the main loop, me on the fatty.  H found the new (26 inch) bike much faster than his old 24 incher. And had the hang of the gears by the end too, which was cool.  Jet, as usual, had a glorious time.  And O and O were pretty quick.

13.4 kms, and a massive 85m climbed... Family fun.

Wednesday night family ride

I was gagging for a ride, and asked my boys if they wanted to come then T said why don't we all go...  The Turner was at Josh's getting new suspension bushes and lower linkage so we were short one bike, meaning T needed to ride the Fatty, and I had to settle for the townie...  So, chucked all the weight bikes on the back of the Fiat (cos T had a work car home), and we wallowed out to the forest.  Hit the trail, me with my be-slicked tires, cruiser bars and basket(ish thing) on front, T on the fatbike and the two boys on theirs, Jet racing off ahead.  Headed in, hung a left and headed through to the pond, then on through and out to the beach.  Stopped and checked out the beach, Jet had a swim, I was tempted to skinny dip, but no one else was keen.  On southwards.  An encounter for Jet with a slightly dodgy dog, then in the quickest way back and through the forest back to the car by 9pm, a late night for the boys...

Slow, no altitude, and short, but fun.

Last Chance Wednesday Fatty & Skinny Bottle Ache

Last chance to expand the lungumes and stretch the legumes before the Grand Annual Voyage upon which we're departing on Friday morning...  Nelson picked me up and we got out round the forest tonight.  Him on his singlespeed and me on the Commando.  He spun hard, and I chased hard and got puffed and needed to delayer on the top of the gazebo rise.  Then we bombed our way around out to the beach and along the front and then in and up to SpencerTown for a short rest, then onwards back through the usual low-ways and by-ways back to the carpark.  That last reasonably new-ish section has got shitty bumps on it for a good couple of kms...

16.75kms, and a whole 96m gained within all those little ups and downs

Sunday boys and Jet, black-Bottled-berries

Fatbike, my boys and Jet the dog, out to Bottle Lake for a spin.  We stopped and ate blackberries at a multitude of locations, finding some real motherlodes.  Through the middle to the pond, then out to the beach.  Realised there that I'd lost (or left behind, at least) Jet's dog-lead, so we headed back along Avenues and a walking track or two back to the pond, then along to where I'd attached O's sweatshirt to my bag.  O found the lead, and we scoffed some more blackberries before heading back to the carpark...... 10.4 kms and surprisingly, but believably, 75m of climby-ness

Thursday evening, kids and dog shorty

Gave the dog and the kids a wee spin in the 'Pond last night.  I's on the fat bike, we treadled into the main trail on the right, then after the dump road we hung a left on a walking track, then another left a bit further along that which took us back across the dump road onto a sweet wee trail i'd found another time, then around a running trail that crosses the bike trail further round.  It was hot and there wasnt any water on us or about, so we turned left and headed towards the pond on another walking trail (instead of riding the wrong way on the bike trail) to where Jetty had a nice drink.  Then down a road, and along a fence and then across to the bike track and back to the carpark.  short and sweet. (and i forgot to turn the mmr off til down the road)

Bottled up Saturday

Fatty on the back of the Brava and Jet in the back, out to Bottle Lake and a bit of a spin of a Saturday morning.  Nice temperature, we headed out to the right, and out to the beach.  At the top of the dune where the sand always blows out, we skidoodled down the washy sand onto the beach.  Sea, spectacular; so inviting, with crystal clear peeling breakers, and wave faces all backed up behind.  Jet was already hot so he was straight in, relishing it.  I moseyed my way about the beach trying to find the best sand to ride on.  None of it was particularly good; definitely struck it better in the past.  Even riding in the compressed tire tracks of a some vehicle wasn't firm enough.  Less air in the tires may have helped, but I just couldn't be arsed stopping and having to pump them up again later, so I persevered and we travelled the whole next section along the coast down on the beach, with no opportunities back into the dunes til the one at the start of the trees again.

Up over the access path and back onto the main track, into the trees, cruising a few bends til I found my usual dune-top trail entrance, emerging out onto the crest of the dune and the foot-slope of the tops of the salt burned pines, a km or so along this.  Back onto the track and down the hill into the back-dunes, following along for a bit then using a small rise to spin back to a sandy back track I saw, onto it which led me to the singletrack.  Around onto it and back into the main forest park.

Usual trails through the forest, taking the 'alternative' lines wherever I could, all very obviously seldom traversed.  Toyed with the idea of heading norther into Spencer country, but back onto the descending trail to Muddy Rd and onwards back, for Jet's sake, it being hot and there not be a hell of a lot of water around.  Into the forest trails again, riding all the completely unridden alternative lines, and through into the next lovely tall forest, open between the trunks, up the risers and down the breezeblocked descents, all the while looking for off piste lines, seeing so much potential but not taking any of it for some reason.  Hung a left on the next main road before the short tree'd section, heading for the 'lake' or ponds, for Jet to have a cool off.  Just cruised along no-hands at Jet's pace, taking in the day.

Caught up with a man and dog, Jet having his usual sniff and play, the humans merely acknowledging each other's existences.  Jet had a slurp at the ponds and we continued our way along a fenceline (behind which was all sorts of mystery - I assume quake wreckage? or forest ops).  Down to where was once some of my favourite bits over the years, now a cleared wasteland with brand new pines.  A ranger passed here in a big cloud of dust, and I headed back onto the worst-made section out there, bumpy hard shitty slow section, on the tail Mr 'Form', youngish dude on some Specialized of somesort, weaving his way ahead.  Kinda stayed on him or caught him, but then had to hold back for the dog.  Nice excuse, anywho.  Past some dudes as we entered the open broomy section, across this, back into the trees, first west then around southwards, and then hung a weird right into the forest, no trail, just riding, curving around as the ground allowed, and finding some weird remnants of an old track, wracking my memory for it, wondering maybe circa mid-late 90's?  Held back to let a horse and 'lady' and her small poodle past, then onto the gravel road and westward, finding a horse track and golfcourse, and then following the gravel more til the last tall stand of trees next to the open spaces of the carpark, bmx etc.  Cruised across the paddock and back to the car.

52minutes riding, 13.7 kms, sweet F.A altitude.

Haha, what a lot of words for such a non-event...  10 oclock on a Saturday night, Hardtail Henry my favourite beer of the moment.  Probably explains it.

Saturday Fat Loop with Travis Planting

Rained all night and was looking to fine up a bit but with showers, so Steve called off the group ride via Bottle Lake to the planting at Travis which was meant to leave his at 8.  Was raining at his place cos of the hills, but not really at mine so I headed out for a spin anyway, and figured I'd swing by the planting if it wasn't cancelled, which in the end, it wasn't.  Left home 8.30.

Headed out from here, round the river, then up Banks Ave on the singletrack, then Archilles and Ajax past the Mall and round Horseshoe Lake Rd, detouring alongside the reserve for a bit, then over into Lakewood Drive and then north on Burwood and into Waitikiri Drive entrance, to find a Robbie 44 chopper, and a bunch of high viz Civil Defence and Police and LandSAR folk all assembled.  No one would tell me what was going on but none of them stopped me, so I went on my merry way (turns out it was this guy).  Into the forest, and hung a left and on through to the pond, releasing some air on the way.  Past the pond and took the lesser used trails, stopping in here to lose a layer.  Second section through then found a fence and gate at the corner of Lima and 20th Ave Closed "due to logging" so had to back track along an old track for a while til it was a bit blocked by windthrow.  Hung a right on Kilo Rd and moseyed north, following the blue walking track signs.  Eventually at 15th Ave headed down and met the Mtnbike track, travelled the "Wrong Way" on it for a block, then along muddy road, aka 13th, and then on the 2 way trail towards Spencerville.  Took this through with a bit of off piste, then turned right and across the top out to the dune trail and followed that back south.  Took my usual detour off the top of the dune along the top for a while, checking googlemaps for the best route to Travis then tucked back into the forest when the sandtrail ran out.  With my route planned, onwards I cruised, cut through to the right and out parallel with Ascot Drive then through Broadhaven Park and a couple of back streets to Inwoods Rd, south directly to Travis. Walking track to the main base, then followed the signs through the middle where I spotted Steve just riding across the paddock to where everyone was assembled to plant.  Planted a bunch of plants, with a southerly shower or two coming through on us, it was cold,  Finished the planting, rode back to base, ate some saussies, then took my leave and rode back through the middle again, past the planting and out, Bassett St, round the river, then redzoned through to McBratneys and home along the river.

Mapped: 30 odd kms, 1 hour 36 minutes riding time.

Thursday night mucky puddle klunk

Not a lot of riding of late, with my knee giving me gyp riding to work etc, so Queen's Birthday weekend at the bach with no riding had been a good rest.  It's finally coming kinda right, so last night Nelson came to mine after work and we had some dinner then headed out to the Puddle.  Lotsa rain over the last couple days meant the hills would have been useless, so Bottle Lake was the best bet.  Lots of puddles around, Nelson was on his singlespeed and I was on the Klunker, which is a fun bike, but hard work.  Handles really well tho, and the backpedal brake is really all you need out there.  We both wore jackets and our G.Effect leggings, meaning when we got back to the car we wouldn't dirty it up.

Did the usual lap, headed in, hung a right and out to North Beach and then up the coast track, where the sand washouts have been dug out with a digger, then north of open section, where the track ends up top of the dune, we stopped for a look at the sea and the just starting to wane moon.  The big seas of last week had cut right into the dunes leaving a big drop down to the sand that was being washed by the waves, leaving practically no beach for walking on...  A couple of riders rode past as we got back up to the bikes and so we chased them down, passing them as we came back into the forest.  Headed all the way up to Spencer Park cos Nelson didn't have any water, then bombed it back south to the car.  Hard work pushing the Klunker with the seat being too low for sitting and not wanting to stand all the way.  We swapped bikes for a little bit and Nelson's felt twitchy and short with it's steep angles compared to the slackness that is Klunk.

Back to the car and stripped off the outer layers and it was looking like she was gonna be a frosty night, bloody cold.

Thursday night solo jetted bottle fat

Ate a little dinner then headed out to the forest with the Cooker and the dog on and in the back, respectively - musta been sometime after 6.30.  Left the carpark and peeled right onto the blue walking track for a start, following it through til it crossed the bike track which we then got onto for a bit.  Crossed the dump access road, then through the woods for a bit, then hung a left onto the walking track, cruising along this for a while, passing two lots of stunned walkers with small fluffy dogs that Jet bowled on up to, sniffed, and continued on.  A wee while down here I spotted a singletrack off to the left, so leaped onto it and followed it, twisting here and there, til it crossed the access road again and twisted and turned through the forest til it found the original walking track i'd started on.  Followed this for ages, til it eventually crossed the central bike track.  Stayed on the walk track for a while longer til we got to a horse track, which I mistakenly took.  Too bumpy for easy riding.  Got to the bike track again and rode it for a bit, til the walking track crossed it again, so rode this for a while through, crossing first a road then the bike track again and following the walking track through backtracking a little south, then out towards the beach and following a sub internal road parallel to the main trail nearer the beach, still southwards for a bit, then followed my nose through the pine-tree'd dunes to the main bike track.  Followed it north for a bit til it rose up onto the top of the dune, the sea high up the beach and the front dune eroded, i think from the remnant of cyclone Pam.  At this point I headed south again, on the dune-top trail, following it to it's end where it came back to the main trail, and then turned around and followed it again north, then continued on through the main drag, hanging the left back into the main park trail, a 29er dude on my tail for a bit, then when the bike track went right, i continued on through til I got back onto a walking track and headed north, spotting the other guy's lights now and then over on my right, and then across muddy road as I descended of a sweet high dune down to it.  From here we just followed the usual drag through, not liking the usual bit I dont like, and Jet slowing right down through these final legs.  Where the trail heads left and through to the cleared area before coming back to the carpark, went straightahead along a forest road, then along main forest roads right then left and with one little last blast through some trees into the back of the bmx pumpy jumpy tracks area and back to the car at 8pm.

Saturday evening, beached

Quick fatty ride this evening.  left home well after 5 and ended up parking out top end of North Beach, rode in and up the trails, exploring non-bike trails and the beach and the dunes and all over the place.  Was interesting.  Found some quite cool wee gems of trails, perfect for fat tires, that would be useless on regular tires.  Meandered along the beach, into the dunes, along trails, back onto the beach.  Ended up right up at Spencer Park, and then rode various trails back near the beach again, til eventually took the wrongway trail back in round the back of the Closed area, then along a road for a while, then into a walk track that ended up crossing the southern trail before the Gazebo Hill.  Here, took a trail along the fenceline and climbed back up onto the hill and down chasing a couple.  Then it was through the last section of trail before cutting out and back to the car.

Brief stop at Parklands for a couple of brews I've not had before, and then a dvd from Shirley and I was home just after 7.

Thursday Fat Bottling

Nelson picked me and Jet up and we left my place about 6 for the Sandpit. Good spin round at a good clip most of the way. Jet was super fast for the first half but started to wane after our brief visit to Spencer Park, as did I. Hard work keeping up with Nelson on those big fat tires.  I played a little with air pressures.  Putting a bit of air in while we were at Spencer Park.  Changed the handling and speed quite markedly.  Just before the 'new' section towards the end, which is really shitty bumpy, I let the air I'd carried from Spencerville out, and some, and continued on.  Bump compliance was improved, but resistance and self-steering was increased.  The fatty definitely is not gonna win any races, but hell, that ain't what they're for... They's for fun.  After a bit of a muck around and Nelson having a go on the Fattster, we got home about 8.

Welcome the Phatness

Picked up a very large box from Fastway on Saturday morning and assembled it as soon as I got home.  A Charge Cooker Maxi 2 Took it for a spin out into the redzone and enjoyed the ridiculous traction and go-anywhere capability.  Very wet overnight so the usual Sunday was cancelled and as the day cleared up I realised the mood I was in was due to not riding for such a long time...

So, opportunity knocked and I chucked the Cooker on the back of the car and headed out to the Ache with the dog.  Straight in and to the right, catching up to a woman on a flash carbon 29er singlespeed, following for a short while then getting by and ahead.  The 4.25 inch tires sticking to the trail like nothing else.  Practically steers itself round the corners.  I took a couple of off-piste lines through here, and any of the sandy blow-outs, the bike just floated right over.  Into the climb to the gazebo and then speeding downhill and through into the bit that'd been closed and then out to the dunes.

Along the front and I took a couple of lines that regular tires would have sunk right in to.  The sandy blow-outs along the top here proved un-eventful.  Further along I tried out one of the hare-trails off the left and bombed over a back dune into some pines, but then spotted some other dogs (big ones) being walked, so hauled up Jet and turned back to the main track.  Once at the forest section I took heaps of off piste lines, finding adventure left right and centre.  Eventually found one that climbed out to the top of the dune way before the main track does, and followed it along the top.  Sweet riding on sand.  Found the regular track again, where it rides along the top of the dune, then hung a right and ploughed down the path onto the beach.  Fun descent and then with a tail wind we cruised for a km or so along the beach til I spotted a saddle in the dune easily ridden up, finding it to be a horse trail, loose sand though still rideable, and then a right hander back onto one of the main drags in here.

Along this for a while then took a line off to the left where there may have once-upon-a-time been a track but no longer.  Up and over through around back up and then into a thicket which I had to turn back out of.  Then over and through to a drop down back onto another forestry road further in again.  This one ended up being very close to the singletrack that heads north into Spencer Park, so followed this for a while.  Then, did some more riding around in the forest finding how close various trails actually are to each other, and was on the trail heading back.  Lots of cool lines, wall-ride type things, extra high berms to be ridden, that due to their sandy nature normal bikes would get stalled in.  Lots of fun.

Finally back to 'Muddy Rd' and back into the usual loop trails, taking every old disused track I could find.  Jet starting to tire a wee bit, and me a little.  The fatbike rolls just as easy as a regular bike.  And if it is a little harder, that'll only make me stronger, right?  The last sort of new section that was built to avoid logging is seriously shittily made, and was okay last time on the 5-Spot, but not okay on the old singlespeed, proved not so bad, but not as good as the Turner.  Once back at the final return road, I took one last blast off into the forest, riding randomly in and through and back out, just for the hell of it.  Big tires make interesting echoes when sticks and stones whack them.  Tis quite an experience.

So.  Test number 1 successful.  Where else can I ride this thing???

Sunday Bottled Klunking

Maybe some of the boys met at Steve's and rode, but i know Steve, Pete and Wazza were all out.  And I pulled out last minute cos of wedding in Ashvegas yesterday and only getting home at 1.40am - not enough sleep.

So.  Somewhere between 10.30 and 11 - O, Jet and me got out to Bottle Lake - me with the Klunker for the first time.  I've been using it round the redzone plenty regular, but this was it's first 'trail' outing.  2:1 ratio perfect for out there, and the back pedal brake was fine, except for one little steep out near North Beach (re-opened trails) that was a bit of a sketchy locked up skid.  Ooops.

So, we headed in and hung a right.  Kinda followed a family for a bit, but their boy (who looked bigger than O) was slower than O was, so eventually they let us past.  Me and O bombed the first section through towards the pagoda hill.  I managed to grovel up to the pagoda, but was sure breathing hard at the top.  Next section along the top and down was good, tho O could have gone faster on that descent.  I was having to feather the brake a little.  In hear for the last year or more we've been having to head through past those ponds, but now it's opened up again to the right, through some trees I cant believe are so big then into major clearance since last we were in there.  Looks like that jump might still be in existence, but shit's sure changed.  Along where i had my moment, and then short regroup before heading north along the beach trail.  At the top where the sand blow-outs always are (and were today) we stopped and headed onto the beach.  Jet went in to cool off, and then so did we!  I stripped to my gruds, O was wearing boardies.  Dived in and it was magnificently refreshing.  Got out and whipped off the gruds and back into my short liners then shorts and off we went again.

Along the beach north, then in and back onto the usual trail, taking in all the older less used trails where the splits happen later, then along 'muddy' road and back towards base.  O slowing down, and it getting pretty hot for Jet, but he was lapping it up and loving it all.  Ended up back at the car about 12.30?  Nice

3 years of the Troll...!!!

Sunday Bottlo

O, Jet and me went to Bottle Lake where the boys rode this morning. I had the Spot for a change.  We went in and to the left, then right, and through the middle to the pond, then on through past the rubble and then across 'muddy' road, and back towards base, all through all the bumpy new stuff...  the Spot sure soaked that up, compared to what i'm used to in there usually, but O sure felt the bumps...  Nice short cruise with him and Jet.  Jet was happpppy.  and is tired now, after yesterday's hill ride and today.
